5 Things I Learned this Christmas

5 Things I Learned this Christmas
Wednesday, 26 December 2018

Yesterday was our first Christmas in our new home and our first Christmas all alone. We stayed at home all day, we got up when we wanted and we made dinner, for ourselves, from scratch. It was magical. The first Christmas in your first ever, brand new, owned home is something you will never get again so I'm really glad we ended up staying in and making it special. ...But, as usual, there were a few things I learned along the way.

The Hardest Thing About Planning a Wedding

The Hardest Thing About Planning a Wedding
Friday, 7 December 2018
Read post
The past few months I've wrote a few wedding posts, all mostly with a jokey undertone - will I turn into a bridezilla? Why is everything so bloody expensive? You know the drill. When I sit and really think about it though, as lovely and as magical as it all can be - I'm yet to mention the hardest thing about planning a wedding. The people who won't be there.

As I mentioned in this post - Christmas is my second favourite 'holiday' of the year and due to excitement, my tree has been up for well over a week already. That's why I was so excited when Aisha from Sous Chef contacted me and asked if I wanted to take a look at a couple of pieces from their Christmas gift section. Today I'm going to share what I chose with you and do a little review while I'm at it. Like gin and cake? If so, keep reading!

3 Reasons I'm Glad We Moved From Our Home Town

Although moving to a completely new area didn't come without it's fair share of risks, it also came with a fair few benefits. When we told people we were moving from our little East Yorkshire town to somewhere down the motorway and in South Yorkshire, they were quick to bite back 'ooh that's a drive away isn't it?' or 'what you moving there for?'. There were very few who looked on the positive side and saw it as a fresh start. Now, after living here for just over 4 months, I thought I'd share my top 3 favourite reasons for moving away from that little town in East Yorkshire and starting again.

Okay, so I know it's still 'only' November and it's not very traditional of me but the tree is up and boy am I excited. Christmas is my second favourite 'holiday' of the year (Bonfire Night is my #1) so I like to milk it as long as possible. I do live with the actual Grinch though so it did take a fair bit of eyelash fluttering to even buy one, let alone put it up.

Sometimes it takes something extravagant like some bad news to make you realise the important things in life. Those little things that you don't always appreciate even though they actually mean the most. For me, recently it's been the tiniest thing that has me appreciating the smaller things in life - the fact I've had an on and off cold for approx. 5 weeks. I know right, but I've honestly felt so down and I needed a little reality check about all the amazing things in my life.

That's exactly why when Sanctuary Bathrooms reached out to me about #GiveYourselfSomeSanctuary I jumped at the chance of receiving a little 'Perfect Night In' box and sharing my 'mental health time' tips.

Back in May I wrote this post about our trip to Longleat and promised a park 2 shortly after. Somehow it got to September and I've managed to post about everything but! Oops. 5 Top Decluttering Tips

If you have seen my recent 'Creating Narnia' post - you will know that I've been on a bit of a cleaning hype - and it hasn't stopped at just a quick 'Hinch'. Although we only moved in July, as we lived together before we bought this home we did have 'stuff' to bring with us. For some stupid reason, instead of using the move as chance to get rid of unwanted items, some things slipped through the net. This resulted in our spare room instantly becoming a bit of a dumping ground and as you can imagine, that didn't sit will with me at all. I've actually had a week at home this week (which I'm sure I will explain a bit later on) and Kal has also had 4 days off which gave the perfect opportunity to have a bit of a clear out. That's why today I thought I could share 5 Top Decluttering Tips as you guys seem to love my list type posts!

When we found 'our house' there wasn't really much planning. Of course, we were living with my parents whilst saving for a mortgage so we knew we wanted to buy a house but it was a bit of a fluke getting the one we got. We basically went to look around a new development as a last minute thing to do on a day off and at the end of that day we had reserved a plot that was due for completion only a couple of months later. Buying a new build was perfect for us as we were able to use a smaller deposit and start from scratch without having to decorate etc ourselves. That being said though, there were a few things that slipped our mind about buying a new build...

If I'm honest (and I don't think this will come as a shock to anybody) I am definitely more of an animal person than a people person. With all the house posts at the minute, I thought it was time to share what makes our little home complete. If you're not an animal person, this is about to get incredibly boring.

5 things I missed when I moved back in with my parents

So, as I'm sure I've mentioned before, in order to save for a mortgage we had to hand in our notice on our rented house and move in with my parents. Obviously we are both incredibly grateful that they would allow this and without them letting us, we wouldn't have managed to save a deposit in just 7 months, but there were a few things that we realised after living alone and then moving back home. Kallum hadn't lived at home since he was 17/18 and I had been moved out for over a year so it was definitely a change! Today I thought I would list some of those things to reminisce.

When I lived at home, my mum did literally everything for me. She washed my clothes, cooked my food and even tidied my room. With that in mind, it's not much of a surprise that moving out was a huge eye opener for me. That being said, I think I handled it pretty well. My partner does things like dealing with bill companies and putting out the bins but everything else, is really taken care of by me. (I like it this way - it keeps me busy) That's why today I thought I would create a little list of things that I have learned since moving out and would love to hear of anything you guys have learned too!

Honesty

Honesty
Monday, 26 February 2018
Read post
Generally speaking I like my blog to be my happy place. I like to share products I've been loving, amazing places I've been going and even when sharing struggles, I like to give a positive outlook. The question is - what do you do when everything isn't positive, though?

2017 was an awful year, in every sense of the word and unfortunately, 2018 doesn't seem to be looking much better. With that being said, it's so incredibly difficult to hide how negative I really am feeling whilst trying to maintain a regular blogging schedule. Those of you who follow my social media may have noticed the little meltdown I had the other day. Part of me considered later removing it, apologising even but at the end of the day, however sad it is, that's life. Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows 100% of the time and I think it would be fake of me to broadcast it that way. Things are tough at the minute. I guess they are for everyone. People have way more stuff going on than I do, I know that. Nonetheless, I frequently find myself in the same mind set. Is any of it worth it? Will I ever be happy?

The big things at the moment seem to be lack of. Lack of friends, lack of things to do etc etc...
(plus a few things I'm keeping private of course)
I find I'm stuck in the same routine and it's near possible to get out of. I ping pong between work and home. The only 2 problems here are that home is no longer my home - it's back at my parents while we face the mammoth task of saving for a mortgage. That's hard, moving home after having your own place, space and routine. Then work, which is not what I had my heart set on (no matter how much I can enjoy it when I'm there). It's not the dream career that I've had a taste of before having to leave my little set up to move home and save for said mortgage. It's a domino effect. Not only that but I have little relief as I literally have no friends (because I'm a* at cutting people off) so if I'm not at work there's very little for me to do other than sit and scroll (and scroll and scroll). It kind of feels like I went from having everything to very little all at once.

All of that been said, I know I don't have it bad. Some people have no support system, no job, nothing. Realistically I should count myself lucky but I'm starting to come to the realisation I'm struggling, hard.

So there's my honesty. I'm not looking for sympathy or well wishes. I just wanted a little relief and to say I'm not feeling my best self at the minute but I hope that I will be soon. I want happy posts with colourful pictures and I'm sure you all do too but until then, please bare with me.
