How to Get Road Trip Ready

Monday, January 22, 2018

Recently, Kallum and I have been going on quite a lot of mini-breaks and you may have noticed from my blog posts, they've all been quite a distance away. Now we've made many rookie mistakes when preparing for these road trips and today I'm going to let you in on a few tips to ensure you don't do the same!

Have you ever been on a journey for quite a while and been absolutely gasping for a drink? I'm talking proper dry mouth. It's horrendous. Whether it's a flask of tea or just a bottle of water, make sure to pack a drink or two in the car so you've covered all basis! Snacks too - you don't need to go too mad and bring a banquet. A homemade sandwich or even just some fruit can keep the munchies at bay!

There is absolutely nothing worse than being in a car for long periods of time and being uncomfortable. (Okay I'm sure there is but you get my gist). Comfort is key and can be achieved so easily. Temperature - make sure your neither too hot or cold. I usually take my coat off but make sure there is something I can grab if I need a cover (blanket, scarf, jacket). Ambience - I'm thinking, music/entertainment. I personally get car sick if I concentrate on a book/my phone so music is key for me. This helps me relax and distracts me from the long journey! Last but not least, empty your bladder pre-travel - no accidents/uncomfortable pains!

Now to the serious part - the car itself. For safety/ your piece of mind it's important to make sure your car is road trip ready! When I was younger I wasn't very car savvy and I made the mistake of not prepping before a long journey - an hour and a half later, queue me stood at a garage phone in hand trying to explain what the warning light on my dash meant to my very concerned dad. Things you could check are - windscreen wiper fluid (again something we have forgotten to do before and have been left squinting out of a very muck covered windscreen), tyre pressure (said problem back in the day, dad to the rescue!) and of course fuel (no one wants to be stranded in the middle of nowhere).
These are just a few things to check to keep you as road savvy as possible, not mentioning the obvious biggies. (Mot & Service)

Should you not feel 100% car confident or just need a helping hand from a professional - Kwik Fit are available to help you get road trip ready! From a simple tyre replacement to car repairs, mot's and services, there are over 600 centres available over the UK/ROI (some even 7 days a week)!

So, are you road trip ready?
