* How To Stay Healthy When You're On The Road

Although it doesn’t really feel like it right now, summer is right around the corner, which means that it’s the perfect time to start planning a road trip, whether it’s with your family, your friends, or by yourself. Whether you’re sticking close to home or driving halfway across the world, it’s important that you’re prepared and do all that you can to stay healthy during your trip. If you don’t know where to start, then here are a few useful tips for when you’re on the road.

Don’t Text And Drive

When you’ve spent hours driving, it can be tempting to check your phone or send text messages to loved ones, but it’s incredibly dangerous. If you want to use your phone, then find somewhere safe to pull over first. If you don’t, you’re not just risking your life; You’re risking the lives of everyone around you.

Drink Lots Of Water

Dehydration can make you feel sick and sleepy, both of which can make it difficult to drive and could result in an accident. You can dehydrate incredibly quickly in a hot car, so it’s important that you keep your windows rolled down and that you drink as much water as you can. Before you set off anywhere, be sure that you have a full bottle, and that you stop to refill when needed.

Pack Healthy Snacks

With all of your driving, you’re going to get peckish, so rather than stop at a drive-thru and buy unhealthy foods, make sure that you pack plenty of healthy snacks, and that you get more when you start to run low. Dry foods, like crackers and popcorn, are a good choice, as they help to fill you up quickly, and won’t spoil if they’re sat in a hot car for hours.

Remember To Exercise

You’re going to be sat down for a large portion of the day, so it’s important that you fit exercise in when you can. Staying at hotels, like Courtyard San Salvador, that has fitness suites and swimming pools, and taking part in physical activities, like hiking, are both great ideas. You can also do ab exercise while you’re driving.

Slap On Sunscreen

You may be spending most of your time in the car, but you’re still going to be exposed to a lot of sunlight, so it’s vital that you remember to apply sunscreen first thing in the morning and keep applying regularly throughout the day. This will help you to avoid sunburn, and decrease the chances of you developing skin cancer.

Take Plenty Of Breaks

It’s never a sensible idea to drive when you’re feeling sleepy. You might not be able to tell that you’re about to fall asleep, which could result in a dangerous accident. For this reason, whenever you start to feel drowsy, it’s important that you pull over and take a break, or let one of your companions take the wheel for a little while.

Road trips are often completely unforgettable, but if you want yours to be unforgettable for all the right reasons, then remember the advice above and keep yourself healthy.
